Jenni Rexroad has been with Starting Point since February 2023. Originally from Indiana, she moved to the area to support her husband in ministry at Open Door Church. She has a bachelor's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University where she graduated with honors. In addition, she received the Early Childhood Education certificate and Administration in Childcare Certificate from College of the Albemarle in 2023. Jenni loves working with children and sharing God’s love with them.
Starting Point Child Development Center is a ministry of Open Door Church in Edenton NC. We provide care to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. The administration and teachers look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education. Parents are always welcome to ask questions.
Mission Statement
Starting Point Child Development Center’s mission is to provide quality childcare and early education to all families in our community. SPCDC provides an environment made up of caring teachers and administration, a developmentally appropriate, safe setting, and a faith-based educational curriculum.
SPCDC believes that every experience has value and that if you..."Direct your children onto the right path...when they are older, they will not leave it." At SPCDC, children will receive quality care, firm foundations, and opportunities to grow.
Goals
SPCDC's goal is to empower children with the self-confidence, self-assurance, knowledge, and moral awareness necessary to establish a strong foundation for his/her future.
Program Goals
Safety and Health
It is our goal to provide a safe environment to all children. This will be accomplished by maintaining well-kept facilities that comply with all safety standards, following a discipline policy that promotes positive reinforcement, and complying with state criminal background check policies.
It is our goal to provide healthy breakfast, lunch, and snacks to all children. This will be accomplished by maintaining food program standards.
It is our goal to promote physical activity by participating in at least 60 minutes of outdoor/gross motor activity per day.
Social/Emotional Development
It is our goal to promote positive relationships between staff and students.
It is our goal to promote positive play with peers. This will be accomplished by creating developmentally appropriate activities for children to participate in. Teachers will utilize the NC Foundations book as a guideline.
It is our goal to model positive social relationships. This will be accomplished by creating a positive working environment amongst our staff through training and teacher development days.
Cognitive/Intellectual Development
It is our goal to encourage children to participate in developmentally appropriate activities. Teachers will utilize the NC Foundations book as a guideline.
It is our goal to provide a curriculum that integrates scholastic and faith-based education. Students will have a minimum of two circle times per day to accomplish this goal.
Moral/Values
It is our goal to promote Christian values to the children in care. Children will learn to be kind, help others, and to do what is right.
Physical/Motor Skills
It is our goal to develop the fine motor skills of a child by engaging in daily fine motor skills activities that are developmentally appropriate. Teachers will utilize the NC Foundations book as a guideline.
It is our goal to develop the gross motor skills of a child by engaging in daily gross motor skills activities that are developmentally appropriate. Teachers will utilize the NC Foundations book as a guideline.
SPCDC uses the ABC Jesus Loves Me curriculum with all children ages 1-4.
